Network Details:
The Webair Network is "OnNet" with multiple Tier 1 providers, meaning we have a direct fiber optic connection between our routers and our upstreams routers. Being OnNet with Tier-1 providers means that we do not link to a backbone, we are directly on the backbones. We have no phone circuits, and do not use a Telecom link to get to the Internet;
instead, we have an in-house connection directly to our peer's ATM fiber node. These fiber optic lines can handle the bandwidth of a T3 or an OC3, and boast Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM) technology. Simply put, our network can handle several times the bandwidth of most major carriers.
We share the digital distribution architecture of our peers, which is comprised of more than 25 high-speed private peering connections to major Internet carriers such as MCI, Sprint, UUNET,
Level3, GBLX, AT&T, AOL, Best, Erols, and others. Our high-speed links to 8 public exchanges including both MAE East and West and most NAPS, ensure the fastest connectivity possible.
Basically our architecture & network design brings the term "multi-homing" to a whole new level. Presently, bandwidth utilization is 5% during peak traffic times. Therefore, the network is very flexible. If one of the backbone connections experiences
problems, the traffic can simply be re-routed over other paths, thereby ensuring that users receive fast access times to sites hosted on our network.
In addition, the network runs Border Gate Protocol (BGP4). BGP is used at a provider with more than one access point to the Internet. It helps create a truly redundant network. In fact, a lease line failure should result in the BGP routing session to close on the bad leased line and the router on a working
circuit should then begin to accept the additional traffic automatically. In other words, traffic from a down circuit is redistributed across other circuits, thereby maintaining network integrity. Providers such as Webair that are multi-homed and correctly setup can actually be more reliable than a single backbone provider because they have multiple
paths to multiple providers.
Data Center Details:
Environment
Precision-controlled air conditioning systems protect and cool mission-critical
servers and equipment in the Network Operations Center. The facility is controlled
by quad-compresser / dual-blower redundant systems. These systems
provide a virtually dust-free and particle-free computing environment, with
temperature, humidity, and air-quality regulation.
Security
Restricted access to the Network Operations Center is monitored by qualified
personnel 24 hours a day, every day. Visitors and clientele are only allowed on-site
if escorted by Network Operations Center staff. The entire Network Operations
Center is monitored, ensuring prompt response and thorough coverage to fire or
security alarms. We supply all our Network Operations Center customers with
advanced firewall, encryption, intrusion detection and other security measures.
24/7/365 on-site security
Card reader on all exterior and interior doors
Fingerprint reader on entrance to colocation area
Video camera monitoring all common areas
Failsafe Power Supply
Our Network Operations State of the art uninterruptable power protection
Our Network Operations Center is designed for a staggering capacity
of 130 watts/ft2. Distributed physical redundency of UPS modules and
associated bypass gear, battery vaults, generators, DC plants including
rectifiers, and cooling towers. Redundant fuel pumps will supply the
generators with up to 18,000 gallons of fuel lasting over a week at full
load. All systems are fully automatic and remotely managable. Additionally, additional fuel supplies are at the ready with the building.
Monitoring
The Network Operations Center uses industry-standard SNMP (Simple Network
Management Protocol) and provides round-the-clock monitoring of all hardware,
including routers, switches, UPS systems, and servers. The Network Operations
Center also monitors power, environmental factors (such as temperature and
humidity), generator status, and network connectivity. All critical services/ports are
monitored, including FTP, HTTP, SMTP, HTTPS, SSH, TELNET, APACHE and POP3. We
provide network monitoring of the Local Area Network, Internet connectivity (all
routers, switches, and wiring), and the Internet backbone via MRTG. Our close and
constant communication with our upstream backbone providers ensures that our
customers have constant access to high-performance Internet connections. Failure
on any monitoring service results in audible alarms, LAN messages, and alerting our
staff paging system. We offer remote cold boot hardware for dedicated
server and co-location clients, with private, password protected, web based access.
Backup Systems
As a courtesy to our clients Webair automatically provides backup data services to all virtual hosting solutions clientele. Services are also optionally available to all dedicated and co-location clientele. Webair utilizes RAID-5 backup grids as well as off site tape backup to ensure no data loss.
